April 2023

I was up at 6 AM on Sunday morning. Moose was barking and howling. I had forgotten to put the shock collar on him the previous night. Once I was downstairs, he went outside to go to the bathroom with the other dogs. I went back upstairs to get dressed, and in the meantime, Moose knocked the baby gate down on the stairs. It’s as if he doesn’t eat first thing in the morning he thinks he will die. He’s such a puppy.

Once this was sorted out, and the other dogs ate as well, I continue to get ready to meet Sue for  breakfast. Walking was a bit out of the question as my foot was still not able to go into a closed toed shoe because of my spider bite. Yuck! We had a nice meet up for coffee and a sweet treat. When I returned home, Jack and his buddies had tutoring. That afternoon Stuart made lunch for us and the Hills. We had pork belly which Mitch got at the Pork Shop in Queen Creek. Later that afternoon, my parents took us to get ice cream to celebrate Millie’s state gymnastics meet success. Elise came over once we were home. We shared a bottle of wine and I decided to stop drinking until Cinco de Mayo. I did this for a few reason. Number one, I felt maybe I was drinking a bit too much. Secondly, I wondered if I could go without. Thirdly, I desperately need to lost weight in order to fit into my summer shorts that I love.

Monday was school as usual. After school I took Millie to gymnastics, picked Jack up from volleyball practice, changed clothes, fed him and took him to the carpool pick up spot, went to Millie’s gym and decided to walk for four miles. I took her home after I got her food. She showered as did I. I put Millie to bed and then went to get Jack. He had a horrible cold, so I cranked him up with medication, had him shower and then sent him to bed.

Tuesday was relatively uneventful. Tuesdays are usually my non-eventful days. After school I did the normal pick-ups and then headed to dinner with my friend, Debi. We hadn’t seen each other since before Christmas so it aas good to catch up with her.

Wednesday school was as usual. We had an in-service after school which was relatively useless. Jack ended up staying home from school because he really was sick. I picked Millie up to take her to gymnastics. I then went out for a walk. There was a meeting for all incoming freshmen athletes at the high school. I thought I was supposed to go, so I did. It seems it was really meant for athletes that were not already in school at Casteel. I missed that part. I left there and headed to the grocery store for some items before I picked Millie up from gymnastics.

Thursday was the last day of our school week. Stuart ended up coming home earlier than expected as he had an issue at one of his schools. I took Millie to Target to get Ella some candy for her birthday party the next day. Stuart went to pick Jack up from volleyball. We took all the boys to volleyball academy. We went to eat dinner and then headed to Costco. Once we were back home, the kids showered and we all chilled.

Friday was Good Friday and we were up at 6:30 am. Stuart went out to get new golf cart batteries as it was the right weather to start using that again. I took Millie to Ella’s for a birthday party sleepover. I then went to purchase drinks for the upcoming celebration of Maytee’s 50th birthday. When I got home, Stuart and I took Jack to his friend Cadence’s house. I met her mother. We then went to deliver Millie’s swimsuit and towel she forgot. We decided to go out to lunch. We went to Costco to get ingredients for potato soup for my staff, food for Jack’s volleyball team, and juice for the mixers. It seems I had decided the week ahead was the week for me to do all the things. I got a message from Millie about a tik tok that was posted of Jack and Cadence. Oh my! It seems he thinks it is okay to record himself kissing this girl and posting it on social media. This boy might learn the hard way. No matter how much we tell him, he continues to make the same stupid errors. We got home from Costco and put everything away. I picked Jack up around 4 pm and spoke to him about keeping personal things personal. I then went into a sex talk, which wasn’t necessary, but I took advantage of him being stuck in the car and having to listen to me. When we got home, Stuart asked him what we talked about on the way home. I quickly said, ‘Sex!’  Jack said, ‘Mom talked about sex. I didn’t talk about anything.’ He wasn’t wrong!  We made steaks that night for dinner and the  Hills came over. When dinner was finished, we decided to play poker. We taught Mitch how to play. It was a lot of fun playing with fake money.

We got up Saturday morning and didn’t have to take Millie to the gym as she had an overnight the previous night and her friend’s mom took the girls. We decided to go to my mom and dad’s to help upload a photo to a book my mom has been writing. We took the golf cart. It is so great to have it running again. We then went to Wal Mart to get the rest of what we hadn’t gotten the previous day, but that was in the car, not the golf cart. Once we were home, Stuart attempted to put the tire on Millie’s Jetson. I just heard a lot of grunting and frustration from inside the house. I left to pick up Millie from gymnastics. She had begged me to go to KTR that afternoon, but that was a hard NO! I also spoke with her coach about what regionals looked like in Long Beach at the end of April. He just told me we would show up, collect her state leotard and she would compete. It seemed simple enough. When we got home from shopping, Elise, Mitch, Stuart and I took in the golf cart and headed to Creekside Taco Shack for lunch.

We got home and showered to go to dinner at Clever Koi with Mary and Todd. We then saw Simon and Garfunkel in downtown Gilbert. The Hale Theater puts on an incredible cover band series. This is the third group we have seen there.

After the show, we popped into Oreganos for a drink and snack.

Easter found us at home with the Easter bunny not disappointing.

We had an early lunch at my parents. Stuart had the leave in the early afternoon so our lunches are generally early on Sundays. After we left Grammie and Pop’s, we road around the neighborhood in the golf cart. Stuart left for Gallup and the kids and I went back out on the golf cart. Our neighbors came with us.

Monday we had more state testing. We seem to drag things out a bit in Queen Creek. Jack forgot his volleyball shorts at home despite me asking him multiple times. He asked me if I could bring them to him. I told him he would get them as soon as I got to the gym that afternoon. It seems he would have remembered everything for the first volleyball match of the season. He was so excited that he totally forgot! I took  Millie to gymnastics after school. I went home so the dogs could go pee. I picked up Weston, our neighbor, to go to Jack’s volleyball match against Payne Junior High. He played really well and they won. Weston has just started rec volleyball so enjoyed the match a great deal.

I dropped Jack and Weston at home and then went to Millie’s gym. I walked for about 30 minutes, picked her up and then got her food. When we got home, Millie and I showered and came downstairs to watch television. Millie and Jack fell asleep on the sofa. Clearly they work and play hard.

School on Tuesday provided more testing. I sent Millie home with Elise after school because I had a benefits meeting. I returned and peeled potatoes in order to prepare to make potato soup that evening. I went to get Jack from volleyball practice and brought him home. I headed out to have dinner with the girls (Mary, Elisa and Sherry). I stopped at the grocery store on the way home to get heavy cream. Once I was home, I discovered that Millie had not eaten dinner because she didn’t come home at the proper time. I got angry with her and ended up boiling over my potato soup. The first batch was not quite as tasty as the second batch, but everyone would just have to deal with it.  While making the potato soup, because I had to let it cool, I put together our new towel holder that is going to go by our pool. Our old one was wooden and cute, but the wet weather this winter warped it to the point of the doors no longer closing. So it was time for a new one.

The inside.

The outside.

Wednesday was a hot day at school. We were very productive in class, which is not always easy during testing. Millie went home with the neighbors as she does every Wednesday. I had team leader meeting until four. I then went home and picked Millie up and took her to gymnastics. I stopped by Casteel to pick Jack up from volleyball. When we got home I got things prepared for the team meal that I was providing on Thursday. I then went to Fry’s to get ice for the cooler. After I got the ice, I went and picked Millie up from gymnastics, got her Whataburger for dinner, and delivered her home for a shower. Millie went to bed at 9:30, Jack went to bed at 10:30, and I went to bed at 11. Days pass quickly with our schedule.

Thursday morning all of the drinks were in the cooler, the uncrustables were in a large baggie, also in the cooler, the box of chips, and the box of rice crispy treats were sitting on top of the cooler. Jack had to lift the cooler into the car because it was too heavy for me. I do love having a strong 14-year-old. I delivered the food to the front office of the school and returned home to pick Millie up for school. School was long, but we left at 3:30 and the next day would be Friday so I would live. We got home and let the dogs out. Millie decided not to go to the volleyball match with me. Luckily, the match was early and we were able to come home afterwards. I brought all the carpool boys home with me after their game with Newell Barney. They virtually destroyed the other team. At any rate, we came home and had chicken tenders, and filled up their water bottles, then we headed out to club volleyball practice. Once we were home, the kids showered, they had a bite to eat, and then everyone went to bed.

Friday morning was a regular morning. School kind of drug on, unfortunately. At the end of the day, Jack had been picked up by my dad and delivered home, Millie and I went home and I got things ready to go to our friend Jane‘s house for Maytee‘s surprise birthday party. When I got to the house, our friend, Lori, Christian, and Jane were there. Ken had asked me to buy all the wine for that evening and things for mimosas the following morning. I didn’t realize that Jane and her husband had a wine room. I’m not sure why you would ask someone to bring wine when at the hostess’s house there is a wine room with over 500 bottles of wine in it. However, he did and I obliged.

Saturday there was more birthday party stuff. We went back to Jane’s for a brunch and facials and massages. I hate that stuff, so I bowed out.
Saturday evening we went to a restaurant in downtown Mesa for another part of the celebration. It was her 50th birthday, so there were many parties for sure.

Sunday I got up and walked with Sue. I told her of my weekend woes. She had invited us to come swim that afternoon, but we had more birthday celebrating to do with Maytee. We also had more birthday party stuff. We went to the afternoon party, but only stayed until Stuart had to leave for Gallup. I then took Jack to get his hair cut, and slipped Millie in for a trim as well. We went home and took the golf cart out for a bit. We went to my mom and dad’s house to drop off some things. I was getting ready to go to Gallup on Wednesday and Thursday, of that week, to work so I was going to leave on Tuesday after school. I took two personal days to go and worked with Melinda Reynolds. So my parents were going to keep the kids. I took the directions down to them of all the things the kids would be doing those two days and also some medication, snacks, and lunch food. After we left their house, we drove around on the golf cart for a little bit and then went home and settled in for the evening.

Monday morning we got up and everybody got ready for school with no fuss. Stuart messaged me in the morning to tell me that likely he would be coming home on Tuesday evening and working from home on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. So all the things that needed to be done with the kids would land on him. It ended up that my mom and dad did not need to keep the kids. However, they were still going to take the kids to see the new Mario movie. When Jack was little, my dad would play Mario with him in the pool. Jack was Mario and my dad would be Luigi. I have no idea how this game started, but I suspect it had something to do with the Wii.

After school on Monday, I took Millie to gymnastics and then headed home to let the dogs out. I then went to Casteel  to watch Jack play volleyball. He was not terribly pleased with his play, but I told him not to worry too much about it. After the game, the boys headed off to club volleyball practice. I went to the chiropractor for an adjustment, and then I drop by my mom and dad’s house to pick up the things I had left there the night before. I then went home for a little bit and had a bite to eat.  I picked Millie up at about 7:30 PM and got her some food. When she got home, she finished her food and then went to take a shower. Just before 10 o’clock I picked Jack up at the carpool spot and we headed home for the night.

Tuesday was school. Stuart decided to work from home on Wednesday through Friday so was heading home on Tuesday. This made plans totally change for us. I told Grammie and Pop they would not have to do all the things after all. I left school as soon as students were gone. When I got home, I loaded my cooler, changed clothes and was ready when Melinda got to our house. We left for Gallup. We stopped in Payson at Culver’s and saw Stuart for a brief moment. The kids went to the new Mario movie with Grammie and Pop and reported it was quite good. Melinda and I got to Stuart’s apartment just before 9 pm, with the time change. We then had our dinner of charcuterie. We were in bed by 10 pm, sharing the double bed Stuart sleeps in. I slept like a corpse as not to roll over on Melinda.

We were up at 6:15 am and got ready to go to St. Bonaventure for the day. I helped in a 1st grade classroom. I modeled a rounding lesson. It was so fun. There were only 10 students and they were so sweet. I then had lunch with Melinda where we talked about where we were going to dinner and also spoke about going to the Nugget Gallery, a place with Native American jewelry and crafts. In the afternoon I visited a 5th grade classroom where they were studying Ancient Egypt. Sadly, the teacher was reading the material to the 8 students in the class and then telling them what to write on their paper instead of letting them discuss the answers and come up with their own responses. After I left his class, I attended the middle school science teacher’s class. He was so engaging and related the topic of matter to their everyday life.

After school, we stopped at the Nugget Gallery, where I bought a new turquoise ring. We then went to Earl’s to have dinner, and buy some jewelry that they were bringing by the tables. But once we got there, we decided we didn’t wanted to eat Earl’s food. So we drank our Diet Pepsi‘s and paid for them. And then we went off to Fratellis to have Stuart’s wings. Yes, there is such a thing on the menu called Stuart wings. We saw a number of Empower consultants there and had a little chat with them. When we got back to the apartment we started watching a standup comedian on Netflix named Leanne Morgan. She was hilarious. Then Carrie, Stuart’s landlord, had Robin, the principal at Tahatchi Elementary,  up on her porch. So Robin messaged me and asked me if I wanted to come up. Melinda and I went up and visited for a while. It was fun!

Thursday we were up and out of the apartment with all of our things packed up. We headed back to St. Bonaventure school and spent the day there working. Melinda had bought a ring with a purple stone, known to be rare in the native jewelry world. The stone fell out in the middle of the day. A guy who was related to the secretary came and fixed it for her. She was thrilled, but it delayed our leaving the school right after school. We got home around 7 PM. I had left my purse in Melinda’s car. So I had to drive down to her house to pick it up before collecting Jack from volleyball carpool spot at 9:30.

On Friday morning I had to get my third shot in my eye. Seems my dad had an appointment to get a shot as well. So I took the opportunity to take a selfie. People, this is what getting older looks like, you start having the same doctor appointments as your parents.

After my shot, I had a bit of time before I had to be back at school, so I went shopping for some shoes and might have bought more than one pair. I went to school for the second half of the day. When I got home from school, a pool guy came by to give an estimate for a deep clean of the pool. Millie had been asked to come to a gym friend’s for a sleepover. We stopped at Gina’s and got our Lululemon treasures before. When I got back, Elise came over for consoling. They had to put their dog Henry down due to old age. Stuart made dinner of chicken cordon blue, roasted potatoes and asparagus. It was delightful. Elise came over for the evening and we sat out on the back porch. Mitch did not come over because he was so sad about having to put Henry down. I can only imagine it won’t be long until they get a new furry friend.

I took Jack Saturday morning to the Hurley house for his ride to the volleyball facility. This was the last tournament of the spring season. He was pretty anxious about winning. I have to admit, as much as I have grown to love volleyball, I am excited for it to be over for a few weeks. He will still have school volleyball, but summer volleyball doesn’t start until the middle of May. And then we are full on again! Stuart and I stopped to get breakfast burritos at Los Favoritos.

The first team, which Jack is on, didn’t win the tournament, but they played really hard. I stayed to watch the last match and had to pick Millie up from her friend Mallory’s house. Grammie and Pop drove me to pick her up while Stuart stayed with Jack at the volleyball facility for the second team’s final match. Once we were all home, we sat around and relaxed. Millie had been at a sleepover and hadn’t taken her pill in the morning, and in the afternoon, it totally slipped my mind, until she erupted. Dang! These epic explosions leave a scar on all of us, unfortunately. We sat on the front porch in the early evening and attempted to escape the meltdown.

Sunday morning we were up and did some chores around the house. Stuart and I went to Sue and Tim’s for brunch and to swim in their new pool. The food and company were delightful. Their pool is perfect and heated, which was a bonus. Stuart left for Gallup from Sue and Tim’s, and I went home to check on the kids. Jack, Millie and myself went to pick up Cadence, Jack’s little girlfriend. They came back to the house and watched a movie upstairs in the loft, and Millie was there as a supervisor. They then went swimming and I fed them chicken nuggets and potatoes. We took Cadence home around 7 pm. We brought Weston and Cole with us, and stopped at Dairy Queen on the way back to our house. Elise was not feeling well and Millie asked if they could go with us.

Monday morning I got up and took Jack to school and returned to pick Millie up. We got to school and we were back to our regular schedule because testing was over. After school I took Millie to gymnastics and Jack stayed to watch the varsity volleyball match after his practice. I picked him up after having done some shopping, and we went to collect Millie, getting Burger King for both of them before we picked her up. When we got home, I had messaged Millie to let her know or remind her that she had not taken her pills for the afternoon. With this message I sent a request that she  be very observant of her behavior, so that we did not have any kind of incident for the evening. She was actually really good, and went to bed with no fuss.

Tuesday morning I got up and took Jack to school. When I returned Millie had some very tight shorts on. I warned her that she would probably get dress coded at school. She insisted she wouldn’t. I decided not to fight with her and she agreed to put an extra pair of shorts in her bag. When I got to school, I went into the principal’s office and asked her if she would dress code Millie. I told my principal that Millie would have responded very poorly with me, and I wasn’t willing to take that on this morning. I also asked my principal if it was too early to introduced the term ‘camel toes’ to Millie. She laughed, and we went out to recess duty. Millie was dress coded and was thankful that she brought her extra pair of shorts. After school Millie and I headed to Target to buy her some new shorts. We also bought Stuart’s birthday presents. I then dropped her at the house and went to watch Jack’s volleyball game. Once Jack’s ball game was finished, and they had won, he and I went home and picked up Stuart and Millie and went out for a family dinner for Stuart’s birthday, which was the following day. Stuart had driven home from Navajo Mountain and was home by the time Jack and I were finished with his volleyball game.

Wednesday morning Stuart and I got up and Jack was already downstairs and had fed the dogs. Stuart took Jack to school and then took his car to see if he needed a new set of brakes. It turned out he did not, so we were relieved to save the money. I took Millie to school and had a meeting at the end of the day that kept me from taking her to gymnastics. Stuart took her to gymnastics and then picked Jack up from volleyball practice. We then went to seek out a cat for Millie. It turns out the cat we found had a brother. So, it looks like instead of one cat we may be getting two cats. We have lost our minds! Millie has begged for a cat since leaving our cat, Pumpkin, in the UAE three years ago.

Thursday was school as usual. Stuart took the Bronco to have the emissions tested. It passed! So it isn’t terribly pretty, but apparently it is road worthy. Once school was out, Millie and I went home. We went to pick up Uncle Russ and go with him to an early dinner at Oreganos. He was in town for the weekend, doing some recruiting. Since we wouldn’t have an opportunity to see him any other day but Thursday, we did our best with an early meal and then he went with us to Jack’s volleyball game at Queen Creek Junior High. Casteel thrashed Queen Creek. Jack served 16 balls in a row, but was upset he didn’t get to show off his hitting skills in front of Uncle Russ. He is a funny kid!

Once the game was over, we dropped Russ back at my mom and dad’s. We then went to TC’s for quiz night. Todd was meeting us there and Elise and Mitch were going as well. Todd got there before we did and said it was packed and there were no tables. I then called and checked on reserving a table, which was no use.  It was so disappointing as this was the plan to celebrate Stuart’s birthday. As we started to park I got a text from Todd that said “Stu’s bday, I got this!”  When we got into the bar, there was Todd, sitting at a table for six people. That guy can get anything he wants. It was awesome! He lands peanut butter side up nearly all the time. The night was so fun. The Pheasant Pluckers (our team name) did not win, but we had a lot of fun and decided this would be a summer activity for us. When we got home, Millie had packed. Jack packed and I wrote a list of what needed to be done before leaving for California the next day.

Friday morning I was awakened at about 3 AM with horrible stomach cramps. I couldn’t decide if it was a stomach flu or food poisoning. I tossed and turned until 5 AM and got up and tried to get ready. I was in serious misery. When I did finally get ready, Millie was awake and downstairs, and I made sure she had all of her things packed for California. Her friend Mallory was going to take her to Long Beach. I drove her to their house and they headed out. It just made more sense that she would be able to be there and get a good night’s sleep before her competition. And I think Kelly, Mallory‘s mom, was willing to take Millie because her two daughters might fuss on the way over. Millie was able to be the mediator.  When I got home from taking Millie, I attempted to clean the house and get things ready for Jennifer to come stay at our house. Stuart told me to just go ahead and take Jack to school and that he would finish off the house. I felt like absolute garbage, but headed onto school after I dropped Jack at school.  I did a whole lot of nothing for the entire day. I told my students that I was afraid I either had food poisoning or stomach flu. I told them I needed to them to finish their unfinished work and get on with things. I told the office and my team I wasn’t well in case someone came in and saw me doing nothing.

I left school at 2:30 and my team dismissed my students. I napped for about an hour before we went to pick Jack up from volleyball practice and drive to California. I felt horrible the entire way. To make matters worse, I had a stinky 14 year old sitting right behind me in the car. Blah! We got to the hotel just before 11 pm. I made Jack shower and then I showered. We all hit the sack.

Saturday morning we met up with Kelley, Mallory, Charley and Millie for breakfast. Millie and I went to pick up Millie’s state team leotard and someone had already signed for it. I messaged her coach and he got back to me an hour later and told me he hadn’t picked it up. He went over to where it was and figured out that someone had signed for hers on the wrong line. So he picked it up. I let Millie know none of this. She would have freaked out. She really freaked out when it wasn’t there initially. Jack and Stuart met us just outside of the convention center. We all walked to the stores. We did a little bit of shopping and then Millie and I headed back to the hotel. We got all of her things for her competition and then we went to the convention center to watch Charley compete. Millie wanted to be there for her team mates. They were all competing according to their age group, aside from the state teams. Charley didn’t do as well as she had hoped and actually cried after the competition. While we watched Charley, Stuart and Jack rode scooters around Long Beach. After Charley finished, we went and got some lunch and Charley’s mom bought her some new shoes, so that helped. Millie and I ended up going back to the convention center where I put her hair up in her bun. She was there in plenty of time.

Her competition was amazing. She was competing with the best 30 gymnasts at her level from Northern California, Southern California, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. She placed 3rd All Around and her team won 2nd out of 5 teams. She got 5 medals and a plaque. During her competition we told her if she got a perfect 10 we would get her a cat, knowing full well that no matter what, she was getting 2 cats. As her competition went on, the thought of cats helped her not be stressed. Her last event was the bars. She asked me if she got a 9.8 would I get her a cat. I said ‘yes’, really thinking she would get at least a 9.8 as it is her strongest event. She got a 9.725. Oops! So as we were waiting for the awards, she then put it forward that is her team won 1st or 2nd would I get her a cat. I said I would.

Millie is far left.

Coach Ryan and Coach Hannah are two of the people who have made her who she is as a gymnast.

Well, they got 2nd, so on the way out of the convention center we showed the kids their new cats. They were so excited. So Winston and Frankie will be collected on Monday after school.

Back to the hotel for a bite to eat, showers and bed. It was a great day for sure!

March 2023

We woke up just before 8 am to whining dogs. I felt like total crap so I went  back upstairs to lay down. My mom called to tell me my dad had been in the emergency room the night before and they had decided to put in the pace maker. I called my brothers even though my mom said my dad wouldn’t be happy for me to tell them. I called my dad to check in on him while my mom was at their house getting things together to take back to the hospital in preparation for his stay. While on the phone with him, he told me he was going home. He said the doctor said he would be fine until his doctor visit on Tuesday. Well, as you would guess, I wouldn’t of agreed with that. But, who am I? I guess in this situation is you just have to trust the doctor knows exactly what they’re doing.

I got dressed and went to Walmart to get some needed groceries. I then came home and laid on the sofa. We went  to Mitch and Elise’s for lunch. I still felt like crap. Shortly after lunch, Stuart left for Gallup. We did a whole lot of nothing in the afternoon. Millie took a shower at about 730 and laid on the sofa. At 8:30, I told her what time to go to bed. She tried to bargain for another 20 minutes, but I said no because she had a late night the previous night. She flipped her switch, and it ensued in an argument. I finally told her I needed a 10 minute break from her, but she insisted that she needed to prove her point to me. I continued to tell her she was not going to prove her point to me because I was the mother and this is how it is.  She followed me to my neighbor’s porch where she screamed ‘You slapped me! You hurt me!’ This was all on the Ring, which was her way of manipulating Stuart in Gallup, knowing full well he would call me or reprimand me. I quickly went inside and explained to her that if our neighbors reported this to the police, someone might come and take her away from us. I also stated if that was what she wanted, then she might as well keep doing what she was doing. She stayed in her room after that. When I did finally let her talk to me, she continued to say the exact same things that she has said before. Then I said I needed another 10 minute break, and if she came downstairs that I would have to take some things away from her other than her phone, because that’s what she lost for yelling at me and telling me that she hated me.  I hate nights like this. I took my 10 minute break over at my neighbors house on her porch. When I came back, Millie was a little more calm, but not much. We ended the way we almost always do, both in tears and both apologetic.

Monday morning she got up with very little fuss. I took Jack to school and returned to collect her, but she wasn’t ready. I just was quiet and patient, and she got in the car a little bit later than I wanted, but I also didn’t want to fight with her. At school, we did some review of some math standards that we had taught throughout the year. We also watched videos regarding science standards from grades 3, r, and 5, as we would be testing on those after spring break. I left school at 3:30 to collect Jack, and then we took Millie to gymnastics.  We came home and Jack had a bite to eat and did some algebra homework. I then took Jack to the carpool spot. I ran my car through the car wash, and then I decided I would go to urgent care. The previous Saturday I developed a little itch on my pinky toe. I kind of thought it was athlete’s foot. However, it developed into a blister on Sunday and then a massive mess on Monday. By the time I took Jack to volleyball, I noticed a red line on the top of my shin that felt like a bruise, but was very warm to the touch. I just suspected some kind of blood poisoning from a bite of some sort.  So I went to urgent care and got that taken care of. I picked up my prescription and then collected Millie from gymnastics.

Tuesday morning Jack lied to me about feeding the dogs. He is such a goof! I ended up taking his phone away from him for the day. When will this boy stop lying? Also, my dad found out he would have his pace maker put in March 20. Jack losing his  phone for his lie turned out to be more of a pain for me than him.

After school the kids went to the park and then stopped at Grammie and Pop’s for a surprise visit. I made dinner, which is super rare.

But dinner was great! I spent the rest of the evening watching trash tv, always my favorite.

Wednesday my toe was not any better. I took the antibiotics on an empty stomach, so barf I on the trip to Casteel. Poor Jack said we could just go home if I was sick. I told him I would message him about who would be picking him up from school. He reminded me he didn’t have his phone.   He just didn’t understand how I could throw up and carry on. The show must always go on! I came home and picked up Millie to go to school and plodded through the half day. We had student led conferences and afterwards I picked Millie up to take her to gymnastics. I had dinner with my friend Mindy from my school last year. It was really good to catch up with her.

Thursday morning we got up and got going. School was a little different because we still had student led conferences in the afternoon, but there were no specials because the specialists were conducting field day on both Thursday and Friday. So I would have a special for an hour on Friday, but none on Thursday. However, I have library on Thursdays, so my students were able to go to the book fair. At lunchtime, I went to the bank to get money for Mexico. When I had a break during student led conferences, I went and shopped for things for a charcuterie tray to make for Grace’s baby shower. Grace is Jennifer Harley‘s daughter. I had volunteered to do that before I knew Millie had a gymnastics meet. So I told Jennifer I would get it together and then she would need to come and pick it up from me on Friday evening. When  I got home from student led conferences Jack was gone. I had messaged my mom and dad to pick Jack up to take him to the carpool spot. I ran down to their house just to say hello because I hadn’t seen my dad in over a week. I was fighting a cold and didn’t want to get him sick. His pacemaker surgery was scheduled for March 20. I suppose they didn’t feel it was as urgent as my parents had felt it was. Once Millie and I were back home, she went up and took a shower. When she came downstairs, she was starving so had some snacks and then laid on the sofa and watching television. Elise came over for about an hour to visit and then I was off to pick Jack up from volleyball carpool.

Friday morning when Jack was awake he asked if he could skip school. I normally am not up for that, but his midterm finals were over and grades were already reported so I saw no need for him to go to school if he didn’t want to. Millie was awake and ready for grandparents breakfast. Grammie and Pop picked her up at about 7:10 and headed off to Grandparents’p breakfast. I had my second appointment with the eye doctor. So I wasn’t going to school that morning. My friend Sam took a picture of Grammie, Pop, and Millie once they got to school for the breakfast.

I got back to school just after lunch and finished out the quarter. After school, my teammate, Merkel,  came with me to get our Rv.

It is possible that I got a little too close to the pump and hit the grey pile-on as I was pulling away from the gas station. Oops! Once we have the RV back at the house, I backed it on the driveway and we went inside for a beer. It was the perfect way to end the quarter.

Saturday Millie had a gymnastics meet and Jack had a volleyball tournament. It was a terribly busy day for sure. After Jack’s volleyball tournament I made him go to his last basketball game. I know Pop dreams of Jack being a basketball kid, but I just don’t think he loves it like he loves volleyball. Unfortunately, the community of basketball players are ruled by one individual at his grade level and Jack wants it to be a total team effort. He wants his teammates to encourage him, not cut him down. He has this climate with volleyball, but did not have it with basketball. My boy is a party kid and just wants to have fun, so we will support whatever he wants. After the activities of the day, Stuart and I came back to the house and hung out in the RV. He had leveled it that morning and it was plugged in for electricity.

Sunday morning we got up and started all the things needing to be done before we went to Mexico. Millie had friends over because the mom guilt got to me. She has few playdates because she is always so busy. So I told her she could have friends over for a while. Our day was consumed with vacation prep.

Monday morning we were up and out by 6 am. Off to Mexico for a week of beach fun. I will say, it may be one of my favorite places as the moment. The kids love it and so do we. We got set up by about 12:30 pm and then went down to set up the beach site.

We set up the new matrix volleyball net, which was a bit more difficult than we had anticipated. We decided to have dinner out that evening. So we went to a local taco shop with Todd and Kyle who had decided to come for the first half of the week.

Tuesday morning I was up at 4:30 AM to take Moose to the bathroom. I then came back to the RV and had a little bit of a sleep. I was up for good at 7:30 AM and the day was a beach day. We had Jack’s volleyball teammate, Aidan, and his dad, come and hang out with us at the beach. We went to Manny’s for lunch. Moose was a stellar dog. The kids saw some scantily dressed women at Manny’s, which might have matured them just a bit. It was spring break, after all. When we left Manny’s we came back to the beach. The volleyball net became a draw to all the kids on the beach.

Around 4 PM, Stuart and Todd went for a massage, but came back shortly after they left as there was no availability. In the evening we locked Moose up and went to have tacos again. When we got back, Moose was barking up a storm. We had hoped no one got concerned for him, but decided we would not be able to do that again.

Wednesday we got up around 5:30 am to the sound of rain. It seldom rains when we are in Mexico, but the weather has been quite unusual this year, so we just rolled with it and made it a game day instead of a beach day.  We spent the day playing games and sitting outside the RV. Todd and Kyle came over around noon and Stuart and Todd went to get their massage. It turns out, that once again, Todd booked a couples massage. It also turns out that couples massages are cheaper. Ha! The kids and I played games while the dads were gone. We also did a drawing game that they loved. When Stuart and Todd got back we went to have seafood at a local place. Todd knows all the best places to eat in Rocky Point. It is so great to have him with us.

After lunch, Todd went to get the armrests of his car he had reupholstered while the kids went down to the beach. Stuart and I went to have a beer at the bar. We then came back to camp for dinner. Stuart, Todd and I played Hearts and everyone was in bed by 9:30 pm. Jack traded beds with Millie on Wednesday night which turned out not to be the best decision. He is really too big for our RV. He is also a bit like me, claustrophobic. So laying on a bed that close to the ceiling was not his favorite. Needless to say, they traded back the next night and Stuart ordered him a 4 man tent to pitch the next time we came to Rocky Point.

Thursday morning we got up and got things sorted out to go to the beach. We then headed to Manny’s for breakfast.

Skip and Sherry were due to arrive around noon, but it ended up being closer to 2 pm. By that time I was in pain from something that I am clearly allergic to. Ugh! My feet and hands were burning and I could get no relief. In hind site, we think I got sun poisoning. Being on antibiotics, in the sun, while drinking? Maybe this combination was not the best. We made dinner that evening. We had frito pie. It was delightful. We played Spinner for a while and then retired for the night.

Friday I actually went out on the paddle board. The sun was beating down on me and about did me in. I did better than I thought I would, but I never stood up on the board. I just sat and paddled. The wind kicked up later in the morning and we ended up leaving the beach for lunch and the adults did not return. We actually had a tasting of Irish beer throughout the day since it was St. Patrick’s Day.

The beers!

The self-proclaimed honorary Irish.

After lunch, I decided to take a nap. I felt a bit feverish and in a bit of  agony. Even after my nap, I still was a bit miserable.  Sherry had cortisone cream which helped, but I was struggling.

We had corn beef and cabbage for dinner, which was yummy. I took a shower after dinner and then the adults played dominoes for a couple of hours. We were in bed by 10 and asleep by 10:30 pm. I slept rather well as I took a Benadryl tablet and it put me straight to sleep.

Saturday morning I felt a bit better, but my lips were really swollen. We went to the beach for a bit and then headed to a hidden oyster farm where we consumer 4 dozen fresh oysters. Yum!

Jack was in heaven.

The carnage!

The harvest was in the water behind us.

Sunday the wind was awful and the beach was not really in our plan. We did go sit on the beach in the late afternoon but didn’t last long. We ended our day by packing up and getting things ready for our journey the next day. Sherry and Skip provided tacos for dinner and we had a fire just outside our trailers.

Monday we were up and out before 6 am. We were home just after 11 am. Jack was a great help in unpacking the RV. I did 4 loads of laundry as well as getting the RV cleaned and ready to go back to storage. Stuart took the RV back to storage, we packed up and left for Gallup just before 4 pm. Jack was going to be picked up for club volleyball and them spend the night with Gavin. My mom was coming to get Millie after my dad had his pace maker procedure. I was going to cancel going with Stuart, but my mom insisted she wanted the kids to stay with her and we should carry on with our plans.

We got to Gallup and unloaded, showered and cozied up on the sofa as it was snowing outside and had snowed all the way to Gallup, once we were in the mountains.

Tuesday morning we were up at 6 am and headed to Tohatchi. I spent the day observing and coaching. I would love this job if it were not for the travel. This fave me a new appreciation for what Stuart deals with regarding the drive each week.

Tuesday evening we stopped at Wal Mart, which was a horrible experience. The booze area is separated from the rest of the store. I had left my ID in the car and they refused to let Stuart buy beer because I didn’t have my ID. He had his, but because they stated we were together, they couldn’t sell it to us. It was aggravating to say the least. So then we had to stop at Albertsons where they checked my ID and Stuart paid. Go figure! It rained and snowed most of the day and into the evening. Once we were back at Stuart’s apartment and had unloaded the groceries, we watched some television for a bit. We then went to Fratelli’s for dinner with Dawn, one of Stuart’s colleagues, whom I also worked with in the summer, and the principal from Tohatchi, Robin, and her husband, Duwayne. I had heard a great deal about this place and was finally able to experience it. We then went to Townplace Hotel where some of the other consultants were meeting up for drinks. Melinda Reynolds was there as well as other people I had heard a great deal about for the last year and a half.

Wednesday morning we got up and packed to leave from Tohatchi to go to Navajo Mountain, Utah, where another one of Stuart’s schools is located. We spent the day at Tohatchi. Jack called in the middle of the day to voice a complaint about Millie. I told him that Grammie and Pop were in charge and he had better never disrespect them like this again by calling me and trying to get me to undermine their authority. This was all over a cell phone stand.

After school, we left Tohatchi to drive 4.5 hours to the Utah school. I have definitely gained a new appreciation for all the driving Stuart does each week. We arrived at the house where he stays while in Utah, but the door was locked and the lady who drove the key up had the wrong key. We followed her to the school and got the right key, unloaded, found out some fuses had blown so had difficulty blowing up our airbed. Stuart got all of that fixed and discovered the hot water wasn’t on, so had to light the pilot. We called Jack to see how he was. Apparently he had a great camp at the high school the previous day and this day. He was really excited about volleyball tryouts the following week. He said he would call us back once Millie was home.

These were the boys at the volleyball camp.

Navajo Mountain is the backdrop for the teacher accommodations provided by the school.

We decided to try to get our Hulu up and running so we could watch one of our series we like. We spoke to the kids and tried to stay warm.

Thursday morning I decided the blow-up mattress was too full the previous night and I had a headache. So Stuart said he would fix it for the following night. We got up around 6:30 am and got ready for the day. We also woke up to the fact that my brother in law, James, had a stent put into his heart to open up a clogged artery. Stuart called his mum as he knew she would be fretting over the entire event. James is 4 years younger than Stuart, so it was really quite a shock. But at least they found the problem and fixed it.

We headed to school. There are a total of 70 students in K-8 and another 30 students at the high school. Each classroom in the elementary had between 6 and 12 students. This day was a bit boring, if I were to be honest, that is until we spoke with the 5th and 6th grade teachers. They both needed help in their review for state testing. I was on it like white on rice. They needed all standards organized in a reasonable way to help them create review material for the next four weeks. I was nearly giddy about the work I would need to get completed the following day.

School was out at 3 pm and we were back at the house by 3:15 pm, watching Netflix. Around 7 pm we decided to eat dinner. We still had a few hours of the evening left. I never have this kind of time an afternoon after a work day. Stuart went to bed just after 9 pm. I took a shower and watched the Bachelor. When I went to bed we had let some of the air out so it was much more comfortable.

Friday we were up and at school by 7:30 AM. I had a lot of work to do. I am pleased to report that I got the first week’s worth of lessons completed and was able to present them to the teachers by 1:30 PM. Both teachers were thrilled at what we gave them. We left Navajo Mountain around 2:30 pm and it started to snow. We got home just before 7 pm and went to Grammie and Pop’s to pick up the kids. We got  ack to our house and I started laundry. I had kind of forgotten the amount of laundry I still had from Mexico. I resigned myself to not getting all the laundry done that evening.

Saturday we got up and took Millie to gym. Later in the morning, Jack went to Carter’s. He ended up sleeping over, which we suspected would happen. When we picked Millie up from gymnastics, we told her we were going out to dinner that night. We said she could either stay home by herself, go to Grammie and Pop’s house, or come to dinner with us. She opted to stay home by herself. Stuart and I went to dinner with Ken and Maytee. We had a nice time catching up with them. When we got home, Millie was still awake. She stayed up until almost 10:30 pm.

We woke up Sunday morning just after 7 am. The dogs were manic. I decided that evening I would put one of the training colors on Moose. We crate them at night, and when we come downstairs, they act as if they didn’t remember we lived in the house. I picked Jack up at 9 am from Carter’s house. When we got home, Jack had chores to do. He opted to do the majority of them the following day as he was going to not be at school while Millie and I started our fourth quarter. Stuart made lunch of ribs, roasted potatoes and  broccoli. Stuart left at the same time Elise and I took the kids to Fun Box, the claimed largest bounce house in the world. It had been set up since November and this was the last weekend. We had purchased tickets in December and it got rained out. So we had to use them this day.

After we left Fun Box, we got home, and I took Millie to a birthday party at Elevate. Jack and I just watched television until I had to go back and collect Millie.

Monday we were up and out of the house, but Jack was still at home because Chandler had a teacher workday. Millie had a bit of test anxiety. I took her in the hallway to tell her what bullshit these tests were. I asked Merkel and Sam to let Millie know the same, which they did. When I got home Monday afternoon, from taking Millie to gymnastics, Jack was on FaceTime with a girl. I made him bring his phone down and introduced me to her. It was embarrassing for him, but he did it very willingly. I’m glad he still shares these things with me. Jack and I headed to Brophy for a volleyball meeting for the parents while the boys were at practice. I was supposed to be the carpool driver, but all parents had to be at the meeting. In the end, all the parents decided to stay and bring their own kid home. When we got back to our house, Grammie had picked Millie up from gymnastics and got her food. She then brought her back to the house and had her take a shower and she went to sleep on the sofa.

Tuesday I got up early and took Jack to school. I came back and got Millie and we headed off to school as well. We had our first Arizona State assessment. It was the science test.  It was to be in three parts and done over three days. Each appointment they have the kids fill out an emotional check sheet. This was the first time Millie was old enough to fill it out by herself. I spoke to the doctor about one of the answers she gave when I asked if she ever felt sad. She answered that she did several times a week. Of course this made me very sad. After speaking with a doctor for a bit, Millie decided that maybe counseling has some things she was willing to go back to. Tuesday night we had nothing to do, which I always love.

Wednesday was another day of testing at school. Wednesday after school I took Millie to gymnastics and then went and picked Jack up from volleyball tryouts at Casteel. He was so excited for school volleyball. He and I spent the evening at home until I had to leave to pick Millie up.

Thursday was the last day of science testing and I went to pick Jack up after his tryouts for volleyball. I was driving carpool that evening, so Millie decided to go with me to take the boys to volleyball practice. I took some papers to grade, but ended up talking to one of the new moms. I don’t always like the new moms. Some of them are very needy. I can’t have needy people around me.

Friday school was great. There were no tests. We got home from school around 330. I picked Jack up from volleyball tryouts at 4 PM and he let me know he made the team. That was no huge shock. Once we got home, Stuart had taken a half-day off and was home to go with us to KTR. Jack apparently had a date. It was Stuart and my anniversary and so we decided we would drop the kids and go have a beer. Jack wasn’t terribly keen about Millie going with him. However, I told him he had two choices, he could take Milly with him or I could sit in the lobby for two hours and wait for him. He decided that it wasn’t a bad thing for Millie to go. After we got home, we just hung out at the house and the neighbors came over. We then made a plan for Sunday lunch.

Saturday morning we were up and out the door at 5:50 AM. Jack had a tournament in Glendale and we volunteered to take all of the boys so they would arrive at 7 AM. Their first match was it until 8 AM, and by that time all the parents were there. Because the first match wasn’t until 8 AM, Stuart and I went to eat breakfast at a place called Miss Genie G’s family restaurant. I am pretty sure that Genie  G was the waitress that was waiting on us. When Stuart asked for some more creamer, the waitress said, ‘God dammit they never order enough. What the hell?’  Stuart and I both discussed, when we got back in the car, that when she said ‘God dammit’ we both could hear Mack Standifird saying, ‘God dammit, Mary’.  It was quite a funny moment. When we got back to the gym, where they were playing volleyball, there was no place to park in the main parking lot. So we parked on the backside of the school. Jack played quite well, but they got beat by their nemesis team. They have a mental block when it comes to this particular team. Stuart and I left the volleyball tournament around 1030. Millie had to be at gymnastics state meet by 1:45 PM. I had texted her coach earlier in the week to ask if she was going to qualify for regionals. What he told me really shocked me. He let me know that she would likely qualify and that currently out of 359 athletes at her same level, she was ranked number one in the state. I know she was good, but I had no idea she was that good. Of course, we think she’s good, but we know nothing about gymnastics.

Needless to say, she did quite well at the meet. She received first place in all events and first place and all around. This is not only qualified her for the regional tournament in Long Beach, California at the end of April, but she also was one of six gymnast picked to represent the state of Arizona on the Arizona Xcel silver gymnastics team. We were beyond thrilled for her. But because her processing skills are a little slower than ours she wasn’t excited at that very moment. She was obsessing over the fact that I told her she couldn’t have a sleepover at our house that night. But in the end, her friend Mallory‘s mother, Kelly, invited a bunch of girls to sleep over. So she was thrilled. She ended up going home with Kelly from the team awards that evening. When we got home from the gymnastics meet, Jack had been returned to the house. After his tournament, he went with some of his friends to a GCU volleyball match. It was a very productive, yes, sometimes exhausting month.
